It was a Radial Fleet showdown at California Yacht Club. How well do you know the scoring tie breaking rules? Joseph Hou and Gage Wilson had scores that tested that knowledge. Nine races were sailed over three days for the Laser Standard and Radials Fleets.  Paul Didham ran away with the Standard fleet win. FULL RESULTS

Recap of Day 1: March 24, 2017
by Regatta Chair Sue Service
California Yacht Club is excited to have 81 boats competing in the 2017 Laser Midwinters West, including competitors from Mexico, Canada, and the east coast of the US.  The first day of the regatta was sailed in "champagne" sailing conditions.  The day started off sunny, and warm, with breeze of about 6 knots from 240 degrees.  Before long the wind built to 12-15 knots, and PRO Tom O'Conor was able to get off three great races for each fleet.

The Laser Standard Fleet had 32 boats competing, and leading the fleet is Paul Didham from MBYC with three bullets, followed by Peter Hurley from Mantoloking YC in New York with 11 points, and Ian Elliot from Royal Victoria YC in Canada with 15 points.

Forty-nine boats are entered in the Laser Radial Fleet.  Joseph Hou from NHYC is at the top of the leaderboard with just 4 points, followed by Gage Wilson from Edison Sailing Center with 7 points and Maura Dewey from Royal Victoria YC with 13 points.

The forecast for tomorrow is for big wind - bring it on!
