The 8th Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta was held in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, January 15-17, 2010. The event was hosted by the Laser Training Center and run by the Dominican Sailing Federation. Thirty seven competitors raced in three divisions, with twenty five in Standards, 10 in Radials and 2 in 4.7s. As always, the winter swell challenged the sailors, with the breeze picking up to 18 knots. This event is a fun combination of racing and social activities. Sailors approached the organizing committee and asked to cancel the prize giving Bar B Q and instead donate the funds to the efforts to reconstruct Haiti (Haiti and the Dominican Republic share one Island).
After three days of racing, Raul Aguayo (DOM) wins the Standard fleet, followed by Ari Barshi (DOM) and Peter Shoppe (USA). In the Radials, Alistair Thompson (NZL) takes first followed by Fred Abels (USA) and Sebastian Bros (DOM). See the full resuts at the Cabarete website.
